The benefit of connectivity
Safety and quality of life in the public interest
The connection project is not only an investment in ski infrastructure, but also a fulfillment of the public interest in the area of public health, safety and socio-economic development of the entire region.
Absolute priority: Safety on the slopes and in the streets
The key benefit is a significant increase in the safety of all visitors. The ski connection will allow for an even distribution of skiers throughout the area, which will create more space on the slopes and eliminate risky crowded areas. The project also plans to increase the proportion of blue and red slopes, which are more suitable for less experienced skiers and families with children.
Calming traffic and returning the city center to pedestrians
The project also aims to fundamentally change the traffic, which currently often paralyzes the city center between the divided areas and threatens the safety of pedestrians. The connection strategy plans to reduce the need for visitors, residents and local citizens to use their cars as much when moving between parts of the area.
This traffic relief is being contributed to by a combination of several key measures implemented together with the city of Špindlerův Mlýn:
- Using new areas in the P1 parking lot: More than a hundred parking spaces will be created directly next to the new cable cars at the Elbe Dam.
- Increasing parking capacities: There will be a significant expansion of the number of parking spaces in the area behind the Technical Services of the city of Špindlerův Mlýn, the so-called Zadní Hromovka.
- New entrances to the P2 – Hromovka parking lot: The new entrance to the Hromovka and Zadní Hromovka parking lots, which was put into operation last season, has significantly relieved the concentration of cars in the city center.
- Improvement and modernization of navigation systems: A new modern navigation system is being gradually built, which informs visitors about the number of free parking spaces in each parking lot, and information road signs are also being strengthened.
These measures lead to the creation of a safe zone for pedestrians and a significant reduction in emissions, noise and stress in the streets. At the same time, the logistics of ski buses will be optimized. Thanks to the P1 terminal, which will serve as an important boarding point for both resorts, the lines will no longer have to meander through narrow winter streets, which will further increase safety and smooth traffic throughout the city.
Another key factor is the acceleration of the intervention of the integrated rescue system and the Mountain Rescue Service, which will allow the cleared roads and ski connections to provide much faster and more efficient assistance to the injured.
A thriving community and an active lifestyle
The project is a fundamental pillar of the region's prosperity. It ensures stabilization and the creation of new jobs and supports active leisure as a healthy alternative to virtual entertainment.
Thanks to the connection, Špindlerův Mlýn will become a modern, safe and environmentally responsible resort that is able to compete with top resorts in Europe while protecting the well-being of its residents.
